With connections to more than 45 airports and a capacity for receiving 3 500 000 passengers, Madeira Airport is today a safe, modern and functional infrastructure where the availability and quality of its services guarantee its passengers an excellent stay on the island.
The airport has some bars, restaurants and shops. On the top floor there is a restaurant that offers a great view of the airplanes. The airport has two VIP Lounges. In addition, it offers personal assistance to and from the airport. There are two banks, an exchange office and ATM machines. In the arrival's area, there is a post office and the police station has a lost and found desk.

Portugal mainland and Madeira island are again linked by a passenger shipping service, after the shipping company Naviera Armas started a line of passengers and cargo between Portimão (South of Portugal, Algarve), and Funchal, the main city of the autonomous region of Madeira. The connection had been interrupted for more than 20 years.

Travel between Funchal and Portimão has a planned duration of 22 hours and costs about € 164 per passenger (round trip) and € 110 per car automobile. The departure from Funchal to Portimão is done on Saturdays (10:30 AM) and from Portimão to Madeira on Sundays (12:00 PM). Various services are available on board as a hot buffet during the entire trip, swimming pool, disco and entertainment for children.

The airport is near Santa Cruz, 16 kilometers from Funchal. Travel time is approximately 15 minutes. On average, every hour, a bus leaves the airport to Funchal, Machico and Caniço. There is also an Airport-bus connection between the airport and Funchal, which is free for passengers from TAP, and cost € 5,00 for travelers in other airplane companies.

The official travel agency of the meetings will also provide transportation between the airport and the various official hotels, if previously required.

In the terminal there are six rent-a-car companies located at level 0: Auto Jardim, Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Rodavante and Sixt Rent-a-car.

There is one taxi stand at Madeira Airport, at arrivals, on level 0.

Taxis that take you from Madeira Airport to any destination on the island will always work with a meter. The fare on the taxi meter should have an initial read of € 3,95 during the week. For the transportation of luggage or animals will be charged an extra of € 1,50. Before taking a taxi, ask about the fare.

All taxi services charge an additional 20% on weekdays between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. on the following day, and throughout the day on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The taxi service from the airport to Funchal Madeira costs about € 25 (luggage transportation not included).
